With the upgrade of the OpenText Content Server to version 25.4, we have taken an important step forward. The Content Server is the central content management system of our customer – documents are managed here, business processes are controlled, and business-critical information is securely stored. But an upgrade alone is not enough – what matters is that the platform works just as reliably afterwards as before. And that is exactly what we now ensure automatically.
Initial Situation: Manual Testing Reaches Its Limits
Previously, after every Content Server upgrade, central functions such as document search, uploads, workflows, and administration interfaces had to be manually verified. This was not only time-consuming but also error-prone:
- High effort for recurring checks after every release.
- Human errors through monotonous, manual test runs.
- No load tests – performance under real load was difficult to assess.
- Time pressure at release, because manual testing delayed the process.
Our goal: After upgrading the OpenText Content Server to 25.4, the test environment should be automatically and comprehensively verified – both functionally and under load.
Our Solution: Cypress + Load Tests
On the Content Server test environment, after the upgrade to 25.4, we deploy two proven testing methods that complement each other perfectly:
Cypress E2E Tests
With Cypress, we simulate real user interactions in the Content Server – from login to document search and workspace navigation to complex workflows. This ensures all critical functions work correctly after the upgrade.
Load Tests
Additionally, we test how the platform behaves under heavy load. This allows us to identify performance bottlenecks early, before they become problems in production.
Automated Assurance
Both test types run automatically on the test environment. This means: no more manual clicking through, no forgotten checks, no surprises at go-live.
A Huge Success for Stability and Security
The result speaks for itself – and marks a true milestone:
- Drastically Less Manual Effort Many hours of manual testing work are replaced by automated test runs.
- Higher Reliability Automated tests verify consistently and reproducibly – with every upgrade, every time equally thorough.
- Performance Assurance Load tests show early on whether the platform remains stable under real-world load.
- Faster Releases Because tests run automatically, the time between upgrade and production release is significantly shortened.
- More Security for Operations Errors are detected before they reach the production environment – a decisive gain for platform security.
Conclusion
With the combination of Cypress E2E tests and load tests after upgrading the OpenText Content Server to 25.4, we are setting a new standard in quality assurance. What was previously tedious manual work now runs automatically, reliably, and repeatably. This is a huge success for the stability and security of the platform – and a solid foundation for all future Content Server upgrades.
